I love the character animation, the main character design and the vision of the bug world. With well planned scenes and good pacing, you successfully bring the scale of environment to life.

Overall, 'Exterminated' is awesome with hidden potentials. It would be even better if you can polish some of the lines and the background.

Looking forward to see more works from you~!

I have seen your work in progress on deviantART. As a self-proclaimed animator, I admire the time you spent to craft this animation. The animation is smooth with enough frames, the graphic is crisp with clean lines.

However, this animation suffers a major problem: it failed to connect the audience with the emotions you try to communicate.

I assume the idea was meant to show that the girl was overwhelmed by the boy's overly nice gestures with flowers, and became panicky and acted contradictorily. But in your animation, the girl didn't express any interest toward to the boy, and the boy was just unconditionally receiving the physical abuse, there is no hint of love connection between the two in the animation.

Another thing is the movements of the characters, while the animation is smooth with decent frame rate, the actions are a bit stiff. Adding more lead-in and lead-out movements with exaggerated morphing on the limbs would have improve the actions...

Anyway, it takes a lot of patience and effort to complete frame-by-frame animation like this. Looking forward to see more of your works!

Great job! The dialogs, voice acting, the animation, the camera angles... Everything fits. Looking forward to see this piece gets competed, I am seeing lots of potential already.

Leonardo da Vinci said "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." I think The Eidolon is a good example of that. It's easy to over look the amount of time and work behind this short but well crafted animation.

The story is simple and straight forward, it's very carefully paced without unnecessary fill ups. The characters and environments design is simplified. The frame by frame animation is smooth while the line work stays clean. The voice work is also thoughtfully kept to minimum. I love your choice of color. (A little nick-pick by the way, I personally don't like the "black noses", it kind of distracting me from focusing characters facial expressions. I understand it's just a style, however, it looks much better with other skin color in your other works.)

Over all, The Eidolon gives me a good vibe of 90's sci-fi movies such as Alien and Event Horizon. In my opinion, it's a breath of fresh air among animations nowadays which fill with over-the-top effects and extreme humor.

May I ask what software did you use to create this film?

High quality for a little test animation. I am always impressed how clean your lines. How do you achieve that? Smoothing setting? A pen display?

Eclipse Force feels like a mix of Anime and 90's cartoon. The concept is very interesting, if you put more work to it, I think it has lots of potential to be a great series.

Some scenes need to be polished. For example, the tweening helicopter at 0:45 is kinda lazy, I would improve it by adding some random movement to the straight path, adjusting the "Ease" setting, or "shaking" the camera. Also, characters costumes are a bit plain. (Luna seems to get her tank top and yoga pants from Walmart... :-P) I think you could add some patterns or accessories to their clothing, you gotta give the team some eye popping costumes.

Over all, you and your team have done a good job. With more polishing, Eclipse Force can be a great animation.

Chakra-X responds:

Thank you so much! The helicopter scene makes me grit my teeth, I need to get better at machinery. Also was done very close to the deadline, but after a year of work I was like screw it, I am not going back to tweak it! Ideally I could spend month or so polishing and cleaning (especially the backgrounds)

Ask for the clothing, believe me I would love to make them more elaborate, but when you make a 7 minute film and you are the only person drawing it, topped with work and other classes, every extra pen stroke required to draw the character adds up in the end, and since I have humanoid characters with "accurate" anatomy, I had to be very careful how elaborate I made the costume. Much thanks for this review!

Good animation with bad sound effects

The animations are good, short and sweet. But, the audio side can be improved a bit more. For example, you could use different sounds for jumping around the trees and landing on the grass, and the volume of background sound can be turn down a little in my opinion. You should find better quality of sound effects to compliment your animation.

By the way , all your movies have simplified characters, is it an art choice, or just an easy way out? ;-)

Lazymodecomics responds:

An art choice, I like to express the characters emotions through body movements and if I really need facial expressions to emphasize a certain emotion I use them. But nothing is more expressive then the body.
